I really can't say enough good things about this cookbook. It is a gift, and clearly a labor of love. I can only imagine how many hours, months, and years were spent perfecting these recipes and then writing them in such a way that even a kitchen novice like me can recreate masterpieces. And embedded in these winning recipes and gorgeous photographs are beautiful, thoughtfully-written essays that span such timeless themes as love and friendship, family and food, tradition and culture, from the unique perspective of an Italian-American who converted to Judaism as a young adult. Friedman has a knack for bringing you right into her world, whether it's her mother's kitchen, her new relatives' homes, or into her thoughtful ruminations. Here you have someone who approaches life with sensitivity, deliberate care, appreciation, and some sassy creativity - as evidenced by her writing, photography, and recipes in this book.
