Zenna Henderson is best known for her stories about The People, who could pass as human, but were from another planet. They had to flee their home planet due to a natural disaster. Some of their ships came to Earth, but had trouble with entering the atmosphere. Their life pods were scattered around the US Southwest when they arrived some time in the late 1800s. They preferred to keep to themselves and not let Earth's native population know about their abilities such as telepathy and telekenesis.

The People stories were collected in two volumes, Pilgrimage: The Book of the People, and The People: No Different Flesh. In 1995, the stories were collected in Ingathering: The Complete People Stories by the New England Science Fiction Association.

Henderson also had two collections of other SF stories published as The Anything Box and Holding Wonder.
