More than my share. More than anybody’s share. I’m not a scientist. I’m not even a wanna-be scientist. Though I did enjoy the periodic table of elements. Hated cutting open frogs and earthworms. The worms have 5 hearts you know, so you can cut them just about anywhere and they’ll still live, which is kinda cool and kinda gross. Cannot even believe I remember that. Quick, somebody put me on Jeopardy. “I’ll take ‘Random 8th Grade Science Facts’ for $600, Alex.’” The best secret I learned was to find the grungiest, earthiest boy to be your lab partner so he could do all of the dissecting, you could write the report, and you’d both get a good grade. But I digress… Which will happen a lot in this book and you will, at the very least, be entertained. But you will be so much more than that. I promise. I’m a student And a sojourner And a freedom-seeker. I am a woman who was diagnosed with hypothyroidism in 1996 and Hashimoto’s in 1999 and God-only-knows how long I had either or both before that. You would have thought Larry, Curly and Moe were running just about every medical office I went to those first few years, trying to figure out what was wrong with me – and being told forever and ever, amen that it was “anxiety.” (See chapter called “Orange Cones.” There’s a section that deals with forgiveness.)
