Windows XP Virtual-box 32/64bit

For Linux Lite 2.2 Users who face problems in running favorite/important Windows applications either in

1.PlayonLinux-allows you to easily install and use numerous games and apps designed to run with Microsoft® Windows®.(sudo apt-get install playonlinux)(http://wiki.playonlinux.com/index.php/First_Use)

or

2.Wine-allows you to run many Windows programs on Linux.(sudo add-apt-repository ppa:ubuntu-wine/ppa && sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install wine)

Note:Playonlinux is better than Wine(since playonlinux downloads the requirements to run an application and configures libraries)

Can use this Windows-XP preinstalled in Virtual-box.

This is Highly Ova file.

Instructions:

1.Download the ova file.

2.Open Virtual-box (make sure you have installed Virtual-box=sudo apt-get install virtual-box).

3.File ->> Import Appliance.

4.Browse to your downloaded Ova file.

5.XP will be imported.

6.Change the settings for RAM,GRAPHICS etc if required.
7.Download Virtual-box Guest Additions.iso depending on the version of Vitual-box installed.

Mount guest additions.iso via Machine->>Settings->>Storage->>CD/DVD Drive->>Browse to guest additions.iso

8.Open XP and Autoplay cd drive and Install.

9.Enjoy Fullscreen Mode, Share your host partitions etc.

10.Done.


Things to do after installing LinuxLite 2.2

1.Update cache
sudo apt-get update

2.If you face slow updates/downloads via Terminal then use:
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:ferramroberto/lffl
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install apt-fast aria2
continue install and when it asks for (suppress aria2 select NO and maximum number of connections to not more than 8)

3..Install Ubuntu restricted extras
sudo apt-fast install ubuntu-restricted-extras

4.Open Menu->>System->>Install Additional Software
Choose options like Chrome,Chromium,Dropbox etc,.,

5.If you have Windows Partitions and want to mount automatically use
Menu->>System->>NTFS configuration tool and choose auto-configure..

6.For Cam drivers use
sudo apt-fast install guvcview

7.If you have installed Chromium/Chrome and want to install flashplugin use
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:skunk/pepper-flash
sudo apt-fast update
sudo apt-fast install pepflashplugin-installer


8.If you want to play windows games/applications then install
sudo apt-fast install playonlinux

9.Install additional drivers like graphics etc,.,
Menu->>System->>Install/Remove Software (i.e. Synaptic Package Manager)->>Settings->>Repositories->>Switch to Additional Drivers.

10.If you want LinuxLite to look similar to ubuntu
Menu->>Settings->>Appearance
(a)Style-select Mediterranean Light
(b)Icons-select Humanity/Humanity-Dark.
(c)Fonts-leave as it is.
(d)Settings-(optional: enable enable event sounds)

11.Install gnome utility to mount and unmount removable drives and to format
sudo apt-fast install gnome-disk-utility
unmout usb(pendrive) and select format and then mount again

12.Last but not least install ubuntu/lubuntu software center
sudo apt-fast install software-center ( for ubuntu)
or
sudo apt-fast install lubuntu-software-center ( for lubuntu)
