Ein Notarzt geht zur Arbeit und trinkt zuvor einen Kaffee. Als er geht, hält er einem Kerl die Tür auf, der anschließend in dem Laden Amok läuft. Wenig später landen die Überlebenden in der Notaufnahme des Arztes. Unter denen, die unverletzt blieben, sind ein erstaunliches gefasst wirkendes junges Mädchen, eine alleinerziehende Kellnerin, sowie ein schwarzer Fahrlehrer mit Spielsuchtproblemen, der fortan an eine vermeintliche Glücksträhne glaubt. Die Kellnerin sucht die Nähe des Arztes, doch der hat andere Sorgen.
