DescriptionA Summer Affair (Calhoun Chronicles #5) by Susan Wiggs (Goodreads Author) 3.78 of 5 stars 3.78 · rating details · 546 ratings · 27 reviews 23 Haunted by his past, doctor Blue Calhoun finds his life forever changed by the arrival of Isabel Fish-Wooten, a wounded fugitive trying to prove her innocence, and braves high society and the criminal underworld to find the truth. This was the first Susan Wiggs book I've read and I would say her strengths lie in understanding the dynamics of a relationship. The characterisation was superb and I really wanted these two people to get together while understanding the confict that kept them apart. I don't usually read straight romance so chose this one because of the historical setting. Set in San Francisco the book had a strong sense of place, historical detail and medicine of the time. Susan Wiggs's life is all about family, friends...and fiction. She lives at the water's edge on an island in Puget Sound, and she commutes to her writers' group in a 17-foot motorboat. She serves as author liaison for Field's End, a literary community on Bainbridge Island, Washington, bringing inspiration and instruction from the world's top authors to her seaside community. (See www.fieldsend.org) She's been featured in the national media, including NPR's "Talk of the Nation," and is a popular speaker locally and nationally. Sharing Widget |
