In a vein similar to Bond movies, a British agent Philip Calvert is on a mission to determine the whereabouts

Philip Calvert (Anthony Hopkins) jest tajnym agentem marynarki. Wraz ze swoim pomocnikiem Hunslettem
(Corin Redgrave) mają za zadanie dowiedzieć się kto ukradł miliony funtów w złotych sztabach niemal
sprzed nosa brytyjskiego rządu. Śledztwo prowadzi ich początkowo do małego portu Hebridean, gdzie mają
miejsce tajemnicze zniknięcia kutrów rybackich, jachtów i ludzi. Nawet zaproszenie do odwiedzin
od niezwykle bogatego Sir Anthony Skourasa (Jack Hawkins) i jego pięknej żony Charlotte (Nathalie Delon)
okazuje się być bardziej oszustwem i podstępem niż uprzejmością.
