Description
RHYTHMSTICK is a salute to Dizzy Gillespie's impact on jazz. Rhythmstick is the name of his percussion instrument, made with a stick and bottle caps.
One of the best all-star sessions ever produced by the legendary Creed Taylor. Actually, this album represented the ressurrection of the CTI label in 1999. Digitally recorded and filmed (in High Definition) "live" at Van Gelder's studio, features such stars as Dizzy Gillespie, Airto, Flora Purim, Anthony Jackson, Art Farmer, John Scofield, and Phil Woods, who play together in such outstanding tracks like Michel Camilo's "Caribe" and Salif Keita's "Wamba", all arranged by Benny Golson. Flora Purim's vocals are consistently stunning. There is no one like her. Art Farmer, Phil Woods and Dave Berg are outstanding in each piece in which they participate. This disk offers a glimpse of many different "legends" to showcase their talents. This was one of Dizzy's last efforts.
