DescriptionThe 14th and 15th centuries saw the formes fixes--the ballade, rondeau and virelai--reach their zenith of popularity among troubadours and trouveres in France, and their fade toward newer musical structures. Though each had a very complex, static form in theory, in practice there was great flexibility, allowing lines to be added or subtracted, and rhyme and musical patterns to be altered. The subjects ranged from courtly love to the raunchy, from the telling of epic battles to the attempted seduction of shepherdesses. The music will surprise you, if you think the modern portrayal of troubadours and their songs were authentic. Far from it; and we have roughly 1000 trouvere (Northern French) songs surviving from this period, and 120 troubadour songs (Southern French). In practice, they should be equal, but the wars fought on what eventually became the southern part of France led to the destruction of many manuscripts. As always, you can find my classical uploads by searching on Philidor, or by looking in this thread: http://kickasstorrents.ee/community/show/philidor-s-classical-stuff/?page=3#post15657024 Sharing Widget |
