Description Ottorino Respighi was, among other things, a pioneering researcher into that period of late 16th century music in the Italian States that produced the first written monody - works favoring a single melodic line. He was surprised but pleased when he put together a short group of pieces in modern orchestration under the name of this album, and it became an international hit. Two more such suites followed, with equal success. What lutenist Paul O'Dette does here (with the aid of a few friends) is to play the originals of these pieces, with a bit else, in some of their original arrangements. Transfers are made at 256 kBits/s, directly from the disc.
