In this volume of the Time-Life Mysteries of the Unknown series we look at various movements and cults which have aspired to create perfection on Earth, either in founding a "perfect" place or in changing a select number of people to adopt a "perfect" lifestyle. Well-illustrated with photos, drawings and artwork, Utopian Visions touches on the Essenes and the Pythagoreans of ancient times, the Quakers and the Mormons in 19th Century America and a host of Theophosists, Futurists, Findhornians, yada, yada, yada. A good introduction although the small size of the volume naturally results in a product which cannot do any of the movements discussed justice, reducing them to mere sidebars. It does tend to focus on some of the more colorful characters.
