The record clearly shows a band on its decline, probably thanks to the tensions between singer and co-founder David Byron and Hensley, Box and Kerslake. As such "High And Mighty" was also the last album featuring Byron, who was sacked one month after the end of the follow-up promotional tour for the album. John Wetton, who'd become close friends with Byron, also left as a consequence. "High And Mighty" isn't a "bad" album per sé, but it's on the lacklustre side, sounding uninspired with its shorter, more mainstream sounding songs. Crank it up, regardless.
