Announcing Unity 4.1
Source : http://unity3d.com/unity/whats-new/ Unity 4.1 is packed with fantastic Pro and Free features specially designed so you can improve your game’s performance and create great content more easily. Plus, Unity now also supports Apple AirPlay. For a complete list of updates and new features in Unity 4.1.3 see the release notes. More power to the Memory Profiler The big news for Pro customers is that we’ve made the Memory Profiler tool much more powerful. The updated version provides a detailed breakdown of non-managed memory consumption so that you know exactly where a device’s memory is going when your game is running. Now you can monitor memory consumption right down to the level of individual objects, assets, textures, meshes and more. We’ve also added a new feature for those of our Pro users who want to monitor a device’s performance during game play but can’t multicast. Unity 4.1 Pro users can now connect directly to a device over local networks by entering its IP address, thus allowing them to access highly-detailed Memory Profiler data or monitor other of the device’s in-game performance parameters with the Profiler tool. Read more about Performance here, or take an in-depth look at the Memory Profiler here. AirPlay support Unity 4.1 brings you full multi-screen AirPlay support. iOS device users running version 4.3 or later can use AirPlay to stream content direct to their HDTV. What’s more, with AirPlay, they can use their iPad or iPhone as a game controller – running and controlling the game from their iOS handheld device whilst watching the action unfold on the big screen. Use 2D blend nodes to blend animations based on two parameters in a single node. For example, you can now blend an animated character’s forward and sideways speed in one node. A refinement to Mecanim’s mirror function has cut down the number of assets you need to mirror a clip, making your game more efficient and easier to maintain. Thanks to the new update, you can now mirror an animation clip by simply activating the mirror toggle associated with it in the blend tree editor. Plus, with the new Mecanim Recording API feature you can now develop time-based gameplay mechanics, such as rewinding, as well as your own tools that visualize and scrub the Mecanim system. Read more about Mecanim here. Shader improvements Write less code and save time with material-specific shader keywords. Write a shader with a number of different flags that you can enable and disable, either via the API or by using the new Custom Material Editor functionality. Plus, we've also extended the shader replacement feature so that it supports lighting and complex materials - useful for special effects and custom scene view modes.
