What arrived was U2 working with Eno and Lanois for the first time ever, and an album which was still obviously U2 but was different from anything that had come before. There was more playing with sound, a more ambient sound at that. A pending tour caused the album recording to be wrapped up earlier than would have been liked, and this has added to the overall feel of the album, a slightly unfinished quality to some of the songs. The first single off of the album, Pride, became U2's biggest hit to date. However, the follow up single did not do as well, and releases from the album stopped after the two. However, interest in the album would be reborn with 1985's appearance at Live Aid where a version of "Bad" lasting over ten minutes was performed and left a lot of people wondering just who these guys were. The album was partially recorded in Slane Castle and finished up at Windmill Lane studios in Dublin. The production team of Lanois and Eno would become a re-occuring force in U2's albums, and they have produced many of the albums since this time.
