TRAMA:

Gli americani vengono a sapere che un sommergibile U-Boot tedesco in avaria attende soccorso da un altro U-boot in pieno oceano Atlantico. Una squadra di incursori viene subito approntata ed inviata con un sommergibile americano, mascherato da U-Boot tedesco, per abbordarlo e impadronirsi del decriptatore Enigma con relativi documenti di cifratura per poter decodificare i messaggi dei tedeschi. Il piano prevede di prendere i tedeschi alla sprovvista, impadronirsi di Enigma e affondare l'U-Boot prima dell'arrivo del sommergibile tedesco di appoggio. L'assalto va a buon fine ma durante il trasbordo dei prigionieri il sommergibile americano viene affondato dall'altro U-Boot, arrivato sul posto prima del previsto. Il capitano Dahlgren (Bill Paxton) muore. La squadra di incursori (Tyler, Klougt detto capo, Emmet, Hirsch, Mazzola e Trigger) riesce a immergersi con l'U-Boot in avaria e ad affondare l'altro. Recuperati altri due superstiti decidono di fare rotta per l'Inghilterra. Vengono però avvistati da un aereo da ricognizione tedesco che li segnala ad un Torpedojäger (Cacciatorpediniere). Gli americani, smascherati, sono costretti ad immergersi, ma dopo essere riusciti a neutralizzare le trasmissioni della nave nemica facendo esplodere la sala radio. Grazie ad una tattica astuta del tenente Tyler riescono a sfuggire alle bombe di profondità e ad affondare la nave con l'ultimo siluro rimasto. Dopo pochi minuti il sommergibile, danneggiato irrimediabilmente, affonda. Gli americani, recuperata enigma, si abbandonano sul battello di salvataggio in attesa di essere salvati dalla marina americana.

STORYLINE:

In the midst of World War II, the battle below the seas rages. The Nazi's have the upper edge as the Allies are unable to crack their war codes. That is, until a wrecked U-boat sends out an SOS signal, and the Allies realise this is their chance to seize the 'enigma coding machine'. But masquerading as Nazi's and taking over the U-boat is the smallest of their problems. The action really begins when they get stranded on the U-boat.
