After being court-martialed and discharged from the Navy, Captain Bell turns to drink. Reduced to skippering a rundown schooner in the South Seas he takes on board a disparate group of passengers and crew including; a Honolulu prostitute on the lam, a third-rate show-biz entrepreneur, an ineffectual missionary, a washed-up opera star, and a couple of refugees. During a treacherous storm at sea, the true characters of all on board are revealed - for better or worse.
