Biography
Troy Stetina is an internationally recognized guitarist, solo artist and music educator. Specializing in rock, metal and classical-electric guitar, Troy has authored over 40 book/CD and DVD guitar methods that have sold over 1 million copies worldwide and guided a generation of players toward guitar mastery. He is also the guitarist of the modern rock band Second Soul, located on the web at www.second-soul.com, and co-owner of the online music retailer Music44.com and Lampifier Microphones at www.Lampifier.com. Troy plays and endorses PRS guitars, Engl amps, Vader cabinets and Dunlop strings. Perhaps the best known of Troy's works is the classic book/CD guitar method, Speed Mechanics for Lead Guitar, often referred to as the "shredders' Bible." First published in 1990, it was a debut major work in electric guitar pedagogy, which standardized an effective approach to achieving the highest levels of guitar technique. Other popular Stetina works include Metal Lead Guitar Volumes 1 and 2, Metal Rhythm Guitar Volumes 1 and 2, Total Rock Guitar, and the complete ear-training and theory manual, Fretboard Mastery, published in 2007.

His latest instructional work is "Troy Stetina: The Sound and the Story" DVD released in 2011 and featuring over three and a half hours of interviews, technique lessons, and composition lessons teaching six Second Soul songs. Troy regards this as his "best instructional work to date." The DVD also features special invitation guest lessons by Mark Tremonti (Alter Bridge/Creed), Michael Angelo Batio, Bill Peck (Exit the Ride), and Eric Friedman (Creed).

Before forming Second Soul in 2009, Troy's instrumental guitar CD Exottica (2000) helped propel the wholesale destruction of society by serving as featured backing music in MTV shows such as "The Osbournes." And in 2007, Troy joined forces with prog-metal band Dimension X to record and produce the concept CD "Implications of a Genetic Defense" (Unicorn Records). The CD received outstanding reviews by prog critics. Troy also served as private guitar teacher to Mark Tremonti (Alter Bridge/Creed) for a number of years. Tremonit is a featured guest soloist on the Second Soul album, trading licks with Troy on the outro of Track 6, entitled "Burn."

Troy has been a featured author for the various international guitar magazines and authored GuitarOne's "Return of the Shred" column for several years. Before this, Troy served as Director of Rock Guitar Studies at the Wisconsin Conservatory of Music.
