Giacomo, detto Giagià dalla moglie Francesca, è un agente immobiliare stressato dalle necessità economiche sempre in aumento della sua famiglia. I due giovani figli, Chiara di 18 anni e Paolo di 14, si comportano come se lui non esistesse, mentre Francesca che da vent'anni è approdata a Milano da Napoli è diventata più milanese dei meneghini puro sangue. Nonostante tutto, la loro coppia resiste mentre i matrimoni dei loro amici si rompono uno dopo l'altro. Ma quando la suocera arriva all'improvviso da Napoli perché il marito l'ha abbandonata, Giacomo, costretto a dormire sul divano prende una drastica decisione. Ristrutturerà il vecchio loft, già usato da giovane per sottrarsi alle premure eccessive dei genitori, e tornerà a vivere da solo. Ma non ha previsto l'insolita reazione della moglie....
