What happens if you don't apply crack?
Vampiric
If you don't apply the crack the launcher after you update the game and press play it asks for activation. (try it if you want)

The crack however does not modify any game file or any .exe it simply makes the launcher to not ask for activation.

It's the best method and it's the only method to have the game fully updated that works with mods and in LAN.
