TOMBS OF THE BLIND DEAD (1972) - WIDESCREEN, UNCUT, ORIGINAL SPANISH LANGUAGE VERSION with ENGLISH SUBTITLES

Tombs of the Blind Dead (1972) is the first installment of Amando de Ossorio’s classic, super creepy, Blind Dead series - followed by three sequels: Return of the Evil Dead (1973), The Ghost Galleon (1974), and Night of the Seagulls (1975).

De Ossorio earned International fame with these widely unsettling tales of Blind, Undead, flesh-eating Monks, resurrected in modern day Portugal. Set against a dreamy, atmospheric, background, it contains some of the most eerily unforgettable slow-motion imagery of recent times.

Seeing as this film, and to a lesser extent, it’s three sequels, are regarded by many as highly influential pieces of Horror Cinema, I was surprised I could not find a copy of this film anywhere in torrent world.

Originally known as ‘La Noche del Terror Ciego’, Tombs of the Blind Dead has a long history of censor problems, and exists in many different versions, but this is the fully restored, wide-screen, uncensored SPANISH LANGUAGE version with soft English subtitles.

CENSOR NOTES - culled from the IMDB:

The dubbed U.S. version was heavily edited for an R rating and retitled "The Blind Dead". This version heavily toned down the blood and sex, removed others scenes entirely, and re-edited the ‘sacrifice scene’ to the beginning of the film.

Another heavily edited, dubbed English language version was released in the US as "Revenge from Planet Ape" to cash in on the "Planet of the Apes" films.

The UK cinema release also featured the shorter, dubbed U.S. print, and was cut a further 1 min 57 secs by the BBFC when released on video in 1988.

The 1994 UK Redemption video release featured the longer Spanish language print, but was still cut by 1 minute and 51 seconds by the BBFC.

The current UK video release has most of these edits restored, but is STILL cut by 16 seconds (2015).
