Tombeau - 17th Century German Harpsichord Music - S Yates, hpschd (1998) [Philidor; FLAC] (Size: 395.38 MB)
Description
While the German States and Austria were generally derided for their musical culture during pre-Baroque times, by the 17th century many had attracted the attention of first rate composers from elsewhere, usually Italy, who took up residence at various courts and taught a new generation. The result were composers equal to any throughout Europe, writing in a number of modern styles. This disc, one in a series devoted to different nations as represented on the harpsichord, pays much but not exclusive attention to Froberger. The tone is usually but not exclusively serious, and points to just how sophisticated the various German nations had grown both in their native talent and appreciation of it.
