To Catch A Killer (2014-2015) Season 1 - Crime and Investigation Channel

A true crime series following Professor/Detective Mike Arntfield and a squad of civilians as they investigate unsolved murders in the Toronto area. When Donna Jean Awcock looked across to the balcony of her apartment from the building where she was babysitting to wish her mum goodnight, both had no idea it was the last time they would ever see one another. 30 years later, her mother mourns the murder of her daughter as if it happened yesterday.

The family desperately wants to know her 'stole her' away. Most troubling for the Awcock family is the behaviour of the Michelle Maynard, the woman who Donna Jean sat for the evening she disappeared. With virtually no contact between Maynard and the family, Arntfield and his team seek her out to re-question what she told police. Her story had been that upon returning from the bar she asked Awcock to purchase cigarettes while the stranger who drove her home remained in his car. All Maynard knows is that Awcock got to the convenience store and disappeared on her way back to her place.

While some of Mike Arntfield's team use old fashioned sleuthing to find Maynard, others turn to new technology ultimately uncovering multiple perpetrators who could have sexually assaulted and strangled the 17-year-old that fall evening. One was even wanted by the FBI.

Season 1 Episode 7

Lynda White:

She was just “a skeleton in the woods.”

Forty-five years after her disappearance, the mystery of Lynda White’s slaying and discovery gets the attention of a celebrity civilian team of investigators on Saturday night.

White was a Western student who vanished after writing a mid-term exam. Her body was found in 1972 in a wooded area in Norfolk County.

The show also connects White’s death to Soraya O’Connell, a 15-year-old London girl who disappeared in 1970 and whose remains were found near Stratford in 1973.

Not mentioned in the program, but clear from an earlier episode, is the connection to the slaying of Jackie English, 15, who vanished after working her shift at the Metropolitan store cafeteria on London’s outskirts on Oct. 4, 1969.

Her body was discovered in a creek near Tillsonburg in 1970. Can the team solve this very cold case?

Season 1 Episode 8 - Final Episode

Clyde Frost: A wealthy landlord, 80-year-old Clyde Frost disappeared from his Hamilton, Ontario home sometime between late evening and early morning on Jan. 24, 1999. His third wife and new bride, Julette Frost, arrived home from a trip to Jamaica the next day, alerting police that both Clyde and his beloved camper van are missing. In an attempt to find her husband, Julette hires a private investigator, to no avail. With foul play suspected, Hamilton Police execute a search warrant on the Frost home and a bloodstain is found on a basement carpet. Was Clyde taken from his home by force? Just over a week later in Toronto, a bylaw enforcement officer notices parking tickets collecting on the windshield of a camper van parked on a street near Regent Park.

Police identify Clyde Frost, with cause of death blunt force injury to the head. Within 24 hours of the discovery, police receive a mysterious fax. In it, the anonymous writer describes the circumstances of Clyde's murder, mentions two accomplices and claims the crime was the unforeseen result of a botched kidnapping scheme. Is the fax a real confession or a bogus and willful attempt to mislead investigators? The police aren't able to trace the sender and Clyde's case goes cold. Fourteen years later, Arntfield and his team dig deep into Clyde's past, his business associates and tenants, and find the kindly landlord was not without detractors.

Could Clyde's murder be the result of an ugly dispute? Clyde's daughters from his first marriage, who live in Nova Scotia, are eager to assist in the search for their father's killer. But those closest to him at the time of his death - including his much-younger widow and step-children - are elusive. Is there valuable information they could contribute to the case?
