El Mercenario (English: The Mercenary) is a scifi comic series by the Spanish artist Vicente Segrelles, published starting from 1980. The latest volume was published in 2003.
It tells the story of a mysterious and anonymous mercenary. Although the setting resembles the medieval settings of classic fantasy stories, it is actually a science fiction story. Magic is due to advanced technology and aliens, while giants and monsters are natural fauna or the results of radiation. The only blatant magic is in a set of apochryphal stories told by the mercenary to impress a young boy.
The series is well known for the great attention paid on the depiction of landscapes.
An unusual feature for a comics, every panel is painted in oil, a rather time consuming technique.
13 albums have been published so far, with at least 11 of those having been translated to English

This is simply one of the coolest graphic novel stories .... well i think so anyways. This is not my work and I have long since forgotten who I got it off but please share and enjoy :-)
