When she joined Ike's band, Tina Turner and the Kings of Rhythm immediately burned up the R&B and pop charts with the single 'A Fool in Love' (1960).
Later billed as the Ike and Tina Turner Revue, the musical group gained higher prominence through their attractive live performances and catchy singles.
As the jewel of the Ike and Tina Turner Revue for most of the 60s and 70s, she perfected her unique stageshow, quitting the band in 1976.
After languishing in obscurity for two years until her 1978 divorce from Ike, Turner made one of the most miraculous comebacks in show business history when a stunning series of albums -starting with 1984's 'Private Dancer' and on through 'Break Every Rule' and 'Foreign Affairs' (1989)- made her into one of the biggest female recording artists in history.
Recorded on the final night of her Break Every Rule world tour, Tina Turner: Rio '88 documents the Queen of Rock & Roll in all her exhilarating glory, marking the apex of the mother of all music-career comebacks.
Famous for her long legs, big hair and raspy voice, this spectacular fusion of Rhythm'n'Blues and Rock'n'Roll shows Tina in her younger days and more on her wild side.
The concert was part of her 1987/88 "Break Every Rule" world tour which broke box office records in 13 countries and became the biggest concert tour in Europe ever.
As she explodes, she enters Maracana Stadium in Rio de Janeiro to an ecstatic audience of over 182.000 fans like a triumphant heroine, riding in on a float that was used during the carnival festival, complete with exotic dancers.
"Are you ready for me?" she asks at the start, like a cautionary warning.
Her voice is in great shape, the band is top notch, the outfits are changed at times for the visit and the set could not go on long enough for me.
Turner has done many concerts and many of them have also been issued multiple times, but there is just something special about this show that distinguishes it from her many great moments on stage.
It is another amazing performance from her monumental comeback, and its a show by our Queen Of Rock you need to see just for all of its energy.
This concert was telecast live to America on HBO and this only added to the number of people who was watching Tina give a performance of a lifetime.
It documents the immense talent of one iconic woman who exuded the energy, sex, and sweat of Rock & Roll better than almost anyone before or since.
Tina showes the world that she still has what it takes to be a worldwide loved super diva, and she wants to go out with a bang!
