However, what Gilliam did is frame the movie in 1920's style windowbox with round corners (black borders on all sides). From what we read, this is how the movie is supposed to be viewed. Cropping all sides would have meant the sides would be to the TVs' borders, which causes the loss of the framing intention (not to mention it's impossible to maintain 1920x or x1080 for 1080p).
