Synopsis
Seizoen 1 laat de vroegste periode van Hendrik VIII zien; zijn regeer-strubbelingen met zowel lokale als internationale politieke intriges. Hij wordt daarbij onder druk gezet om een mannelijke troonopvolger te produceren en stoot zijn eerste vrouw, Catharina van Aragon, af voor de jonge Anna Boleyn.

Episode 6
Nu Koning Hendrik VIII steeds zelfverzekerder wordt groeit zijn ergenis over de manier waarop de katholieke Kerk zijn verzoek, om het huwelijk met Katherine van Aragon te beëindigen, afhandelt. Hierdoor wordt de positie van Kardinaal Wolsey verzwakt hetgeen hem kwetsbaar maakt voor zijn vijanden.

Synopsis
Season One chronicles the period of Henry VIII's reign in which his effectiveness as king is tested by international conflicts as well as political intrigue in his own court, while the pressure of fathering a male heir compels him to reject his wife, Katherine of Aragon,[10] in favour of Anne Boleyn. He also has a string of affairs and fathers an illegitimate son with his mistress, Elizabeth "Bessie" Blount. The son, Henry FitzRoy, later dies.

In Episode 6:
As King Henry gains in confidence, his displeasure with the way the Catholic church handles his request for an annulment of his marriage to Katherine of Aragon grows. As a result, Cardinal Wolsey's position is weakening, leaving him vulnerable to his enemies.
