Description
The Stranglers
Hugh Cornwell was originally a blues musician before he formed the Stranglers, bassist Jean Jacques Burnel was a classical guitarist who had performed with symphony orchestras, Jet Black was a former jazz drummer, and Dave Greenfield (keyboard) had played at military bases in Germany. That's hardly a Punk line-up but they were formed in 1974 and were very strong in 1979-81. That's pretty much when Punk grew up so it's not surprising they were associated. But certainly post Punk their songs were much more layered and slickly produced giving them a sound of their own without really having a genre to slot into. This compilation includes all the major hits although their highest entry was actually No.2 with Golden Brown in 1981 (UK), and later in the film 'Snatch' directed by Guy Ritchie, but only 5 or 6 other tracks made it into the top 10 and most of the rest were way down the list. That doesn't reflect in their quality, it just highlights the unique niche they seemed to make for themselves i.e. not mainstream. Nostalgia's great. Enjoy! All tracks are MP3 320kbps (Stereo not 'Joint Stereo') I always hate it when people try to skimp on a little more space when Joint Stereo just means you poor little mp3 player has to work harder to give you (reduced quality) Stereo sound to listen to when you play it back.
