Het verhaal speelt zich af tijdens de jaarlijkse Smurfberry Hunt.
Brainy Smurf (Brilsmurf) is de grote favoriet om voor de negende keer
op rij de smurfbessenzoektocht te winnen. Gutsy Smurf (McSmurf) vraagt
zich af hoe het komt dat Brainy de wedstrijd elk jaar wint en gaat op
onderzoek uit. Dat leidt hem naar Smurfy Hollow en hij belandt in een
valstrik van Gargamel. Kunnen Brainy en Gutsy, met de hulp van Smurfette
(Smurfin), hun rivaliteit opzijzetten voor Gargamel hen vangt? Of erger,
voor ze oog in oog komen te staan met de legendarische griezel, de
onthoofde ruiter?
