It's good 5.1, if you have some problems, it's probably with compalibity.

For sure it's not the oldest one, because it has 4 channels. Sound is perfect, but if you have some programs or even hardware not compatible with Dolby (I know for sure that Apple can be a problem), then it's not going to be perfect.
