Starring Emma Thompson and Anthony Hopkins
Our previous offering of this great movie was not really best suited for television viewing, the truth be known, however the size was meant to lend itself to being made use of in unmodified fashion in whatever DivX capable ipod style players could make use of it, after being enjoyed on the television adequately enough. Although some would deem that approach incompetent, it does serve a need, and i might point out that at the time the only available alternative was an eight gigabyte download over weeks that some were offering on the bittorrent networks everywhere, and that certainly is arguably not competent since DVD shrink could reduce the size by forty percent to save on bandwidth with no one the wiser! Among the many DVD titles we bought and donated to the library system in Toronto Canada among other cities, this was certainly included. There is a lack of desire for quality programming to be made available through these channels as the head librarian of this city wrote to us to say that they are profoundly concerned with "cost per disc" when making purchasing decisions and so it appears the dollars go further when spent elsewhere than where we deem it competent or even sane and morally decent! this was when we first donated the complete Upstairs Downstairs 24 volume set we bought back then at a $260 sale from Columbia house. They've since dropped in price on ebay and elsewhere I see. What we have here is a nice 640 X 480 conversion using the latest Divx compression of DivX author 1.5, from the creators of the DivX standard at divx.com. We have included two audio tracks (German and English) at full 128K bit rate which is fifty percent higher than our previous offering wh8ch was deliberately made into a small file size offering to quickly reach the most possible people that had long dine without by comparison and perhaps altogether. We also have both the English and the German audio tracks selectable on your DivX disc player or desktop Divx software player such as version 6.8. We also have embedded in both French and German subtitles into a self contained divx file so that the subtitles are always player on a disc player and a 100% compatible divx player as that from divx.com (free of any cost whatever). For those that like the very lightweight and politely styled VLC player available from many European websites (at the time of this writing) to use on a computer, you will need to use the subtitles file that is separately included in this download (you might be able to grab it separately if your torrent software allows you to pick and choose from this torrent bundle). This separate list is usable on a computer as indicated however if your computer is linked to your large screen television etc, you could use it that way as well to display whatever subtitles you require. List of languages in the separate file are as follows (sub/idx combination): English French German Italian Spanish Dutch Arabic Bulgarian Czech Danish Greek Hebrew Magyar (Hungarian) Islenska Norsk Polish Portugues Suomi (Finland) Svenska The file is zipped using winzip 11 which is freely downloadable of your computer doesn't handle such files due to a more efficient compression method that is used to make the file as small as it is (given all the languages that we simply chose to include complete, as -is rather than offer a bunch of individual torrents based on popular anticipated demand for each language offering). No German subtitles were available on the NTSC versions of the DVDs we purchased for some inexplicable reason I might add! For this reason we had to get the PAL version to do the conversion since we never dub or add subtitles that are not exactly as on the original disc unless the format was never made and we have had to use other sources as a last resort. We cannot see why a thousand people have downloaded the eight gig PAL DVD when they could have used DVD shrink and had it for approximately 4.7 gigs instead (compression by DVD shrink does not in fact affect anything you see in the final product). Better still I say that a DivX alternative such as this one is all you need. You should have a zoom feature on your disc player (although it shows lovely indeed using VLC on a desktop too, as is) to get the screen as full as possible with the rich picture that is in this offering here. We did a comparison between the PAL version of the DVD and this DivX file we created using it and find that the proportion of the screen coverage is the same. The resolutions may be different however the coverage on the screen is not. We tested using the region free DVD X utilities player on a PC. And as already stated you will find this is great enough resolution to be nicely settled on as great. This is one of the most important movies ever made. Not enough pay attention to what its message is. In a concern for the needs of decorum and appearances to please, we cannot abandon our sanity. Nor can we ever lose sight of what it is that makes us the best possible sorts of people in the first place - the continued retention of a willing and growing need of the ability to care. this is what we must most nurture in others and most require in the right place in the order of things. we otherwise become blind and point to an emperor that some now say has no clothes on. That said, we have learned much from the British example to the world in the area of politeness and articulation prowess as areas in which we cannot compromise or be less than we are. for this the British will always be remembered as the best teachers to the human race of that which will keep it moving forward in a way as to keep the peace and require rational engagement.
