This book has been written as a resource for K–8 teachers and future teachers. Although this book is intended for elementary and middle school teachers, I have tried to “up the ante” a little bit. In my experiences with children, more often than not, I found that my expectations for what they can and want to understand about science fell far short of what they were actually capable. The National Science Education Standards and most state standards and curricular
documents provide a minimum baseline for what we may expect children to learn. If children are interested and engaged, they are capable of learning fairly complex concepts.
