The Poetry of Coleridge - 3 - Burton&Lynch (Size: 159.57 MB)
Description
Richard Burton reads Frost at Midnight and The Rime of the Ancient Mariner (with John Neville and Robert Hardy)
This is an unusually powerful and dramatic performance - we are all familiar with Burton's barrel-chested Welsh baritone but here you will find a voice capable of unusually sensitive inflections. In the 1950's and 60's Richard Burton bestrode the London stage like a greek god....a pity Liz and the booze got him (sound is first-rate given the age) The Irish actor Finbar Lynch recorded the Mariner for the bbc in 2009. At the time I downloaded it as an mp3 file but this no longer seems to be available so I am uploading it here. A quite recommendable version. Some have enquired about the Penguin Audiobook Coleridge. This is already available on demonoid. Go to - http://www.demonoid.me/files/details/2491230/4732427/ (mrbassie). Note that Highbridge Audio has the rights for North America. This can be taken as a model introduction to Coleridge and the reading of The Ancient Mariner is one of the best available.
