Synopsis

Lambert is an addict. A sex addict. It once cost him his pilot job, but he's now trying to work it out through a support group and a new career as couples therapist. Judith has no problem. She's a nymphomaniac who's delighted to sleep with everyone she likes and particularly the men she works with. Until it gets her fired. So now she's crashing at her grumpy old uncle's home, until she gets back on her feet. When Judith applies for a job at Lambert's practice, they are instantly attracted to each other. But the more she tries to seduce him, the more he wants to build a healthy relationship with her... one not based on sex. It's an uphill battle every day, to keep her from jumping his bones!

Sex, Love & Therapy (Tu veux ou tu veux pas) is an edgy but sweet rom-com starring France's eternal sweetheart Sophie Marceau and one of France's biggest stars - singer and actor Patrick Bruel.

The original title 'Tu veux ou tu veux pas' refers to the classic Brigitte Bardot song which translates to 'Do you want it or don't you?'.



This is the crucial question that brings Lambert (Bruel), a recovering sex addict and Judith (Marceau), a woman who uses her unbridled sexuality to get what she wants together.



Now approaching middle-age, Lambert, a disgraced former pilot, is desperately trying to redeem himself by working as a marriage counsellor. When he looks for an assistant, he meets the shambolic and highly-strung Judith, who clearly has no qualification for the position. Lambert however takes her on, believing that if he can resist her obvious charms, he truly is on the road to recovery.



Being a rom-com, the audiences knows how it is going to end, but along the way there are a few twists and turns.



The film is highlighted with great cameos including Sylvie Vartan as Lambert's mother, who pines for romance in her later years and Jean-Pierre Marielle as himself in a well-written scene that recalls Woody Allen's cameo in Paris-Manhattan.



However despite the risqué set-up and great cast, Tonie Marshal's script is somewhat simplistic and predictable and there are some awfully crude jokes which seem misplaced (which is probably explains why the film is titled 'The Missionaries' in the US).



In the end, whilst it is enjoyable, Sex, Love & Therapy feels a little underwhelming. Nevertheless if you're a fan of Marceau or Bruel it's certainly worth a watch as the duo make the most of their underwritten characters.
