Sull'autobus che li conduce a Marrakech fanno conoscenza con un misterioso personaggio, Louis Bernard, che desta subito qualche perplessità nella diffidente Jo. La sera i McKenna, recatisi a cena in un locale tipico, incontrano i coniugi Drayton, una coppia inglese che alloggia nel medesimo albergo, e con la quale s'intrattengono per la serata. Con loro sorpresa, nello stesso locale i McKenna intravedono l'onnipresente e misterioso Bernard che, dopo essere passato nel pomeriggio nella loro camera d'albergo per invitarli a cena, li ha poi lasciati con una scusa.......
