Plot :

The movie begins with Professor John Oldman (David Lee Smith) packing his belongings onto his truck, preparing to move to a new home. His colleagues show up to give him an impromptu farewell party: Harry (John Billingsley), a biologist; Edith (Ellen Crawford), an art history professor and devout Christian; Dan (Tony Todd), an anthropologist; Sandy (Annika Peterson), a historian who is in love with John; Dr. Will Gruber (Richard Riehle), a psychiatrist; Art (William Katt), an archaeologist; and his student Linda (Alexis Thorpe).

As John's colleagues continue to press him to explain the reason for his departure, John slowly, and somewhat reluctantly, reveals that he is a prehistoric "caveman" who has lived for more than 14 millennia, and that he relocates every 10 years to keep others from realizing that he does not age. He begins his story under the guise of a possible science-fiction story, but eventually stops speaking in hypotheticals and begins answering questions from a first-person perspective. His colleagues refuse to believe his story. John continues his tale, relating how he was a Sumerian for 2000 years, then a Babylonian...

Trama :

All'inizio del film vediamo il Professor John Oldman che carica le sue cose sul furgone, in preparazione al trasloco verso una nuova dimora, prima che i suoi colleghi si presentino per dargli un'inaspettata festa d'addio. Tra di loro, Harry (John Billingsley), un biologo, Edith (Ellen Crawford), una studiosa di scritture cristiane, Dan (Tony Todd), un antropologo, e Sandy (Annika Peterson), una dottoressa innamorata di John. Mentre entrano in casa, Edith scorge un dipinto sconosciuto di Van Gogh appartenente a John, con le parole "Al mio amico, Jacques Borne" scritte sul retro. Una volta dentro la casa, si viene a sapere che John Oldman ha inaspettatamente lasciato la sua cattedra di professore, e i suoi preoccupati amici sono lì per avere una spiegazione.

Dopo qualche discussione frivola, un altro amico di nome Art Jenkins (William Katt), un archeologo, e una sua studentessa, Linda Murphy (Alexis Thorpe), si uniscono al gruppo. Gli amici di John continuano a far pressione affinché lui riveli loro le ragioni della sua partenza, finché John fa la domanda "E se supponessimo che un uomo dal Paleolitico Superiore fosse sopravvissuto fino ai giorni nostri?".
