From Damon Lindelof, co-creator of the hit series Lost, and based on the bestselling 2011 novel by Tom Perrotta (a co-creator and EP), this one-hour HBO drama focuses on residents of a suburban town whose preconceptions are shattered in the wake of a global event dubbed “The Departure,” in which 2% of the world’s population were “taken” (i.e., vanished) while others were left behind. In Season 2, which takes place four years after the Departure and a year after the events depicted in Season 1, now-former police chief Kevin Garvey and his nuclear family – daughter Jill, girlfriend Nora Durst (who lost her entire family in the Departure), and baby Lily (abandoned on their doorstep at the end of last season) – have moved from the flaming ruins of Mapleton, NY and taken up roots in Jarden, TX, a.k.a. “Miracle” – a town of close to 10,000 that’s the only place in the U.S. where no one vanished. Befriending the Murphys, an African-American family who live next door, Kevin hopes to find peace and resolution in this modern Eden – but ends up battling new demons (and the ghost of Patti Levin) as another Departure-like event strikes painfully close to home. Meanwhile, back in New York, Kevin’s estranged wife Laurie has denounced the Guilty Remnant – those silent, white-clad, chain-smoking nihilists – and has enlisted her son Tom (former protégé of the late healer, Holy Wayne) to help rescue and reprogram Guilty Remnant recruits for better and, sometimes, for worse.
