Sinopsis

Tolstoi (Plummer) se encuentra refugiado en su finca de Yásnia Poliana. Su vida se apaga lentamente mientras su esposa Sofía Andréievna (Mirren) y su principal discípulo, Vladimir Cherkov (Giamatti), se disputan el legado del autor. Enfrentado con sus allegados, Tolstoi trata de escapar de su hogar, pero su avanzada edad y su frágil salud únicamente le permiten llegar hasta la estación ferroviaria de Astapovo, donde se extinguiría su vida.
