The Last Hunt-1956-"Not for the squeamish, as the killing of the buffalo is real" (Size: 996.46 MB)
Description
This bleak and impressive Western pitches ruthless, Indian-hating buffalo hunter Taylor ('One less buffalo means one less Indian') against the more sympathetic Granger, who later falls for Indian squaw Paget. The extended massacre scene is chillingly effective, and the film not only condemns the senseless slaughter of bison, but also raises questions about the Western myths of heroism and the pioneering spirit. Russell Harlan's admirably low-key cinematography complements writer/director Brooks' down-beat tone.
It's an impressive Western, one that is marvelously photographed by cinematographer Russell Harlan and eerily effective in delivering its chilling message. It might be Taylor's best performance ever, I can't think offhand of him in better form.
