The TV series was made in the 1980s, and was filmed in Ireland at locations in Kildare and Wicklow with additional locations in the West of Ireland in a co-production between Ulster Television and Radio Telef?s ?ireann. It was broadcast on Channel 4 in the UK and RT? One in the Republic of Ireland.



The various stories concern the life of an Irish ex-British Army officer Resident Magistrate (R.M.) recently appointed to his position in Ireland, which at that stage was still wholly a part of the United Kingdom, and before the creation of the present day Republic of Ireland.

Series One, Episode Six - O Love! O Fire! (1983}



Old Mrs. Knox is giving a tenant's ball. While all are invited, Major Yeates and Philippa are tricked into helping out.



Arriving late, Flurry is in a strange, quiet mood, which the Major mistakes for drunkenness.



After an exhausting evening of dancing, the Resident Magistrate learns that Flurry's state has more than a little to do with Sally Knox. Apparently, Sally has been told by her mother, Lady Knox, who is very aware of Flurry's feelings toward her daughter, that she must go to England. Only the wily Old Mrs. Knox can save the couple's love.



A blazing finale to the first series.
