The Hobbit 1- Provisional Purist Mod

Peter Jackson's "The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey" is a great movie, don't get me wrong--but it just cries out for a purist edit. There are some things it gets very right: for instance, it includes some of the lines I thought would never make it into the movie. A great example is Gandalf's monologue about the meaning of "good morning"--it was not only there, but handled very well. And yet, so much was added that really didn't belong.

So I've tried to wrap things up a little different where possible. I've also cut out the worst of the violence so the movie can be enjoyed by children, much like the book (at least by kids, say, 7 and up). You still see people hitting each other with weapons, but I've removed the most explicit scenes where orcs get run through or decapitated, and so on.

I've called this a provisional purist mod because the real thing needs to wait for all three movies to be out in extended editions. A proper purist edit should be based on the extended editions, and some scenes may need to be swapped between movies: for instance the scenes of the White Council may need to be moved to the second movie, perhaps after Gandalf leaves the company on the edge of Mirkwood.
