Deze vakkundig gemaakte en spannende film geregisseerd door J. Lee Thompson
is een verfilming van het gelijknamige boek van Alistair MacLean. De film was
een groot succes in de bioscoop en werd onderscheiden met een Golden Globe
voor de beste film. Een film die terecht een status als klassieker heeft en
bij uitstek de beste verfilming van het werk van MacLean.

De film zit knap in elkaar en weet alle ingrediënten van een ouderwetse
avonturenfilm in de juiste dosering voor het voetlicht te brengen. Een goed
dichtgetimmerd verhaal vol met actie, humor en spanning zorgt voor ruim
tweeëneenhalf uur Top-entertainment. Ondanks de "historische" inleiding,
berust het verhaal op fictie, wat erg spijtig is, omdat het zo'n fantastisch
verhaal is.

Regisseur Thompson laat de vaart soms wat teruglopen op momenten die nodig
zijn om even tot rust te komen en toont zich een bekwaam actieregisseur in de
meer spannende scènes. Die zijn er genoeg en alles is even vakkundig en
stijlvol in elkaar gezet. Sommige special effects zijn niet helemaal meer van
deze tijd, maar een kniesoor die daarop let. The Guns Of Navarone is nagenoeg
een perfecte oorlogsfilm geworden. Topper!

Tijdens de Tweede Wereldoorlog hebben de Duitsers op het Griekse eiland
Navarone twee grote kanonnen laten bouwen diep in de rotsen. Ze zijn niet
vanuit de lucht of vanaf zee te vernietigen. Omdat ze een strategische zee-
engte in de Egeïsche Zee bestrijken is het noodzakelijk dat de kanonnen
worden opgeblazen. Een commandogroep wordt samengesteld: alpinist Mallory,
explosieven-expert Miller, radioman Brown, koele killer Pappadimos, de
Griekse verzetstrijder Stavros en de Engelse majoor Franklin. Ze krijgen hulp
van twee Griekse vrouwen op het eiland. Het doel is Navarone en de totale
vernietiging van de kanonnen.

This beautifully crafted and thrilling film directed by J. Lee Thompson is an
adaptation of the novel by Alistair MacLean. The film was a huge success in
the cinema and was awarded a Golden Globe for best film. A film that rightly
status as a classic, and by far the best adaptation of the work of MacLean.
The film is clever and knows all the ingredients together in an old-fashioned
adventure film in the correct dosage for the limelight. A good boarded story
filled with action, humor and tension provides more than two and a half hour

Top entertainment. Despite the "historical " introduction, the story is
based on fiction, which is very unfortunate, because it 's fantastic story.
Director Thompson let the momentum sometimes decline at times needed to just
unwind and shows himself a capable action director in the more exciting
scenes. That there are enough and everything is expertly and stylishly put
together. Some special effects are not quite out of date, but a grumbler who
watch them. The Guns Of Navarone has almost become a perfect war. Topper!
During World War II the Germans on the Greek island of Navarone two large
