Includes footage of the open day at Crewe works featuring several steam locomotives, and the opening of the then new Crewe heritage centre. The programme features footage of intercity liveried class 87s passing through the railway station, an exploration of the signal box, and an explanation of how the railway system and locomotive works developed in the town. Excerpts of an LMS film showing the construction of a Stanier pacific locomotive are seen, along with shots of locomotives such as LLNWR locomotive Cornwall, stanier 8F 48151, a deltic, a western, a green class 24, Duke of Gloucester, 6201 Princess Elizabeth, and Liverpool and Manchester locomotive, Lion, austerity locomotive Whiston, and D200 which took part in the cavalcade, which was also attended by Her Majesty the Queen. - Also features a brief cab ride through the station.
