Barry Allen is a Central City police forensic scientist with a reasonably happy life despite the childhood trauma of a mysterious red and yellow being killing his mother, and framing his father. All that changes when a massive particle accelerator accident leads to Barry being struck by lightning in his lab. Coming out of coma nine months later, Barry and his new friends at STAR labs find that he now has the ability to move at superhuman speed. Furthermore, Barry learns that he is but one of many affected by that event, most of whom are using their powers for evil. Determined to make a difference, Barry dedicates his life fighting such threats as The Flash. While he gains allies he never expected, there are also secret forces determined also to aid and manipulate him for their own agenda.

The Flash è una serie televisiva statunitense spin-off di Arrow, sviluppata dai creatori di quest'ultima Greg Berlanti, Marc Guggenheim e Andrew Kreisberg. Basata sul personaggio di Flash, supereroe protagonista di una serie di fumetti pubblicata da DC Comics, si svolge nello stesso universo della serie madre.

Flash ha fatto il suo esordio nell'ottava puntata della serie tv più vista in Italia nel 2013 ("Arrow"), per poi dar vita a uno spin-off ad hoc con lo stesso team produttivo proprio di "Arrow" (Greg Berlanti in testa). Ad interpretare il super-eroe che corre e si muove più veloce del lampo è stato chiamato Grant Gustin, già visto in "Glee" e al cinema nel film apocalittico "Affluenza", ambientato allo scoccare della recente crisi economica. Gustin vestirà i panni dello scienziato dalla doppia vita Barry Allen, il quale capita a Starling City per indagare su una serie di rapine che riguardano il suo passato. Allen-Flash è stato presente in "Arrow" lungo 3 episodi prima di sfrecciare nella propria serie "su misura". Geoff Johns, celebre fumettista della DC Comics, ha preso parte al progetto di spin-off del personaggio nato nel 1940 e già protagonista di una fortunata serie tv del 1990 con John Wesley Shipp nella tutina di foamglas del rosso giustiziere mascherato.
