But I’m proud to have been born and raised in Newman, a small town on the other side of Stanley, about 10 or 12 miles from Owensboro. Newman didn’t have a post office or anything, so not a lot of people even know where it is. That’s why we joke about it. When I tell my brothers and sisters about some of the places I’ve been to races with Nicky, like Dubai or someplace like that, they’ll say, “Well, that’s a long, long way from Newman, Kentucky!” Newman was so small. We lived on Steamboat Road and had only about five neighbours. The whole population was about 200. Everybody knew everybody. But I loved it. People helped each other out. If a farmer had some bad luck, everybody would come out and pitch in and help him get his crops out. That’s what we did. They were really good people. No violence. No drugs out there. Nothing like that. Just real laid back. Sharing Widget |
