Synopis:

Construction workers in World War II in the Pacific are needed to build military sites, but the work is dangerous and they doubt the ability of the Navy to protect them. After a series of attacks by the Japanese, something new is tried, Construction Battalions (CBs=Seabees). The new CBs have to both build and be ready to fight.

Sinopse Pt Br:

Wedge Donovan (John Wayne) é o chefe de uma companhia de construção civil localizada no Pacífico Sul, antes do ataque a Pearl Harbor. Assim, quando o ataque ocorreu, trabalhadores dele foram mortos ou ficaram mutilados, pois é proibido civis usarem armas. Assim ele vai até Washington com o oficial Robert Yarrow Dennis O'Keefe), que proibiu o uso de armas mas só por estar cumprindo ordens, pois Robert acha a regra errada. Apesar dos argumentos de Donovan para a Marinha, lhe negam permissão para treinar seus homens para combate. Só depois de incorrer grandes perdas é dado a Donovan uma patente, com seus homens se alistando oficialmente na Marinha. Paralelamente Constance Chesley (Susan Hayward), a namorada de Yarrow, se sente atraída por Wedge.
