Description

DVD-Rip - French with English Sub-titles

4 Episodes

Running Time: Approx. 6 hours.

Alexandre Dumas' THE COUNT OF MONTE CRISTO follows the adventures of Edmond Dantes (Gerard Depardieu), a 19th-century French version of James Bond or Batman, a rich, ruthless, and suave purveyor of homemade justice.

This French production goes all out, having the destinction of being the first filmed version of the newly restored unabridged version of Dumas' classic, which runs about 800 pages. The movie was filmed all over Europe, has a cast of thousands where even the extras are big names, and, with an original running time of more than six hours, doesn't leave out any detail from the celebrated novel.

About the Novel:

The Count of Monte Cristo (French: Le Comte de Monte Cristo) is a classic adventure novel by Alexandre Dumas. It is often considered, along with The Three Musketeers, as Dumas' best work, and is frequently included on lists of the best novels of all time. The writing of the work was completed in 1844. According to the introductory biography in the Penguin Books publication of the novel, Dumas collaborated with others such as Auguste Maquet in the writing to suggest plots and/or historical background for the novel.

The story takes place in France, Italy, and islands in the Mediterranean during the historical events of 1815 (from just before the Hundred Days through the reign of Louis-Philippe of France). It is primarily concerned with themes of justice, vengeance, mercy and forgiveness, and is told in the style of an adventure story.

Dumas got the idea for The Count of Monte Cristo from a true story, which he found in a memoir written by a man named Jacques Peuchet. Peuchet related the story of a shoemaker named Pierre Picaud, who was living in Paris in 1807. Picaud was engaged to marry a rich woman, but four jealous friends falsely accused him of being a spy for England. He was imprisoned for seven years. During his imprisonment a dying fellow prisoner bequeathed him a treasure hidden in Milan. When Picaud was released in 1814, he took possession of the treasure, returned under another name to Paris and spent ten years plotting his successful revenge against his former friends.

Technical:

Dvd ripped with DVD Decrypter and converted to AVI with AutoGK in which I set the custom size to 550mb using the rationale that 2 hours of video should be 700mb hence 1.5 hours should be approximately 525mb. I set the parameters as xvid - video: 640 - audio: mp3 cbr 112.

Thanks. This movie is the closest to the novel.
If you can, do put up a HD version of it if available.
I couldn't watch without the subtitle, that was a little annoying!
And thank you Uploader.
