The Counselor is an upcoming 2013 drama thriller film directed by Ridley Scott, from the first original film screenplay by Cormac McCarthy. The Counselor is set to be released in the United States on October 25, 2013 by 20th Century Fox. The film is rated R for "grisly images, graphic violence, strong sexual content, and language". The film will be dedicated to the memory of the director's brother Tony Scott, who had taken his own life during production, and Matthew Baker, an assistant director on the film who has since died.[2]

The screenplay written by Pulitzer Prize-winner McCarthy will also be available in book form on October 15. The original score by Daniel Pemberton will be released digitally October 22.[3][4]

The Counselor will be the closing night film at the 2013 Morelia Film Festival and will also play the Cork Film Festival. The London premiere was held on October 3, 2013 in Leicester Square. The New York City premiere was held on October 9, while the Los Angeles premiere is scheduled to be held October 22, 2013
