The Cars - 1980 - Panorama (2014 HDtracks) [FLAC@192khz24bit] The Cars Wikipedia: The Cars are an American rock band that emerged from the new wave scene in the late 1970s. The band originated in Boston, Massachusetts in 1976, with singer, rhythm guitarist and songwriter Ric Ocasek, singer and bassist Benjamin Orr, lead guitarist Elliot Easton, keyboardist Greg Hawkes and drummer David Robinson. The Cars were at the forefront in merging 1970s guitar-oriented rock with the new synthesizer-oriented pop that was then becoming popular and which would flourish in the early 1980s. Robert Palmer, music critic for The New York Times and Rolling Stone, described the Cars' musical style by saying: "they have taken some important but disparate contemporary trends—punk minimalism, the labyrinthine synthesizer and guitar textures of art rock, the '50s rockabilly revival and the melodious terseness of power pop—and mixed them into a personal and appealing blend." The Cars were named "Best New Artist" in the 1978 Rolling Stone Readers' Poll and won "Video of the Year" for "You Might Think" at the first MTV Video Music Awards in 1984. Their debut album, The Cars, sold six million copies and appeared on the Billboard 200 album chart for 139 weeks. As of 2001, the Cars have sold over 23 million albums in the United States. The band broke up in 1988, and Ocasek had always discouraged talk of a reunion since then. Orr died in 2000 from pancreatic cancer. In 2005, Easton and Hawkes joined with Todd Rundgren to form a spin-off band, the New Cars, which performed classic Cars and Rundgren songs alongside new material. The original surviving members reunited in 2010 to record a new album, Move Like This, which was released in May 2011, followed by a short tour. In 2015, they were nominated for induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Panorama (2014 HDtracks) Artist: The Cars Title: Panorama Producer: Roy Thomas Baker Release Date: August 15, 1980 Label: Rhino Records, Elektra Records Genres: Rock, New Wave, Pop Rock, Art rock Duration: 40:27 Website: http://www.hdtracks.com/panorama-291185 Wikipedia: Panorama is the third studio album by American new wave band The Cars, released in 1980. The record marked a change from the upbeat pop rock and hard rock of the group's previous albums, representing a more aggressive and experimental sound. It was not as commercially successful as The Cars' previous or subsequent albums (until 1987's Door to Door). However, it did hit #5 on the Billboard 200 chart and has been certified platinum by the RIAA. As a single off the album, the song "Touch and Go" peaked at #37 on the Billboard Hot 100. AllMusic Review by Greg Prato: For their third album, 1980's Panorama, the Cars decided to challenge their fans with an album unlike its predecessors. Whereas The Cars and Candy-O were both comprised of instantly catchy and distinctly tuneful songs, Panorama was much darker and not as obvious -- an attempt at breaking away from the expected winning formula. Still, the album was embraced by their fans and hit number five on the charts, although it was the only Cars release not to spawn a true hit single (the closest thing to a hit was "Touch and Go," which peaked at number 37). Standouts included the swirling title track that opens the album, as well as the aforementioned "Touch and Go," which merges off-time keyboard flourishes with some great textural guitar work by Elliot Easton. "Gimme Some Slack" proved to be a fierce rocker, as did the underrated album closer, "Up and Down," while their softer side was represented by "You Wear Those Eyes." Many would consider such tracks as "Down Boys," "Misfit Kid," and "Getting Through" throwaways, but others are strong, just not as well known as some of the other material ("Don't Tell Me No," "Running to You"). It may not be as instantly rewarding as other Cars albums, but Panorama improves with each listen. 01 - Panorama - 05:44 02 - Touch and Go - 04:55 03 - Gimme Some Slack - 03:32 04 - Don't Tell Me No - 04:02 05 - Getting Through - 02:38 06 - Misfit Kid - 04:32 07 - Down Boys - 03:06 08 - You Wear Those Eyes - 04:59 09 - Running To You - 03:22 10 - Up And Down - 03:37 All songs written and composed by Ric Ocasek Personnel: Ric Ocasek – lead vocals, rhythm guitar Elliot Easton – lead guitar, backing vocals Greg Hawkes – keyboards, percussion, saxophone, backing vocals Benjamin Orr – lead vocals, bass David Robinson – drums, percussion, Syndrums, backing vocals ♪♬♫ ENJOY! ♪♬♫ Sharing Widget |
