The prefix TWV is generally followed by a genre number, a letter indicating the key (in some cases), and a work number. The genre number indicates the general type or medium of the work. A major key is in upper case, a minor key in lower case. The second number is the work's number within the genre. For example, Telemann's Concerto polonois in B flat major for strings and basso continuo is TWV 43:B3. His Orchestral suite in D major is TWV 55:D18, and his Overture in G minor is TWV 55:g4. Vocal works were catalogued in a similar way by Werner Menke in the Telemann-Vokalwerke-Verzeichnis (Telemann Vocal Works Catalogue), abbreviated TVWV. For example, Telemann's Johannes-Passion is TVWV 5:42. His Times of the Day cantata is TVWV 20:39. The manifold variety of its melodies and rhythms offers the recorder, an instrument that Telemann by his own account had begun playing in his early childhood and had studied with the greatest precision, plenty of room for virtuoso display, especially in the fast movements. Moreover, the other four concertos selected once again reflect the broad instrumental and stylistic spectrum over which Telemann ranged – from a concerto for transverse flute in which the composer forges links to the traditions of pastoral music to a complex horn double concerto exhibiting sharp, precisely etched contrast formations after the Italian model. Michael Schneider and his La Stagione and Camerata Köln ensembles again convey the versatility of the multi-instrumentalist Telemann with a lot of pep. And nobody playing today is better at doing just that! La Stagione Frankfurt & Camerata Köln La Stagione Frankfurt The orchestra La Stagione Frankfurt has for many years been counted among the most successful ensembles in the field of authentic music performance. The versatility of the ensemble's director Michael Schneider on the one hand and the artistic flexibility of each of the musicians on the other, enable a convincing and authentic performance of a wide spectrum of works from the areas of baroque opera and oratorios through classical symphonic works to the performance of important pieces of the 20th century. It is the discovery and performance of lesser known musical gems by composers such as F.I. Beck, A. Stradella, A. Scarlatti, I. Holzbauer and the sons of Bach coupled with the stimulating and authentic interpretation of the standard repertoire which characterises the artistic intention of La Stagione. Performing regularly with well-known vocal and instrumental soloists, the invitations to important European festivals and concert venues as well as the numerous highly regarded recordings attest to the high reputation of La Stagione Frankfurt. La Stagione Frankfurt ist generously supported by the Ministry for Culture and Science of Hessen. Under the name of Camerata Köln a handful of music students founded the ensemble in 1979 at the music conservatoire in Cologne. Ever since then, enthusiasm for the music of the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, the desire and imagination to pursue wholly new sounds and forms of interpretation, artistic approaches and stage presence in combination with a great deal of research and spontaneous desire for music making have marked the work of the ensemble and their international concerts. After many years and extensive engagement with the better and lesser-known composers of the baroque and classic periods, the members of the ensemble Michael Schneider, Karl Kaiser, Christine Busch, Rainer Zipperling und Sabine Bauer consider themselves ambassadors of a musical art which, despite having been penned a long time ago, can still move modern audiences emotionally, spiritually and aesthetically, and can therefore be called "contemporary". Emotion, energy and structure are the major theme which Monteverdi, Bach and Haydn made the objects of their art; and it is these topics which build a bridge to the present and current needs of audiences. The intention of art today continues to unite and present the complexities of the various aspects of human forms of expression. For the musicians of Cologne Camerata — Camerata Köln it was therefore binding to integrate modern-day music into their repertoire. The union of contrasts, expression and maturity independent of trends, as well as fashion, enthusiasm and relaxed virtuosity are qualities which critics as well as audiences continually ascribe to the concerts and numerous CD productions of Cologne Camerata — Camerata Kön.
