If it so happened that your OS can not be loaded because the loader system is damaged in such a situation it is necessary to take action. To solve the problem, there are different tools, they will load the operating system and restore the boot, in this case, you are invited to Super Grub2 Disk. Unassuming interface, intuitive, need only create a boot disk, boot Flash, or Floppy disk, boot from it, click a few buttons and reboot already recovered system. The main task is to restore utilities damaged or destroyed loader. The second problem - as close as possible to meet with the loader GRUB2 and thus how to load the OS.
Functions and menu options Super Grub2 Disk:
Detect any OS
By selecting this option SG2D (Super GRUB2 Disk) will scan all partitions on all disks with the aim to detect operating systems, and then create a menu where you can choose any of the OS found for subsequent launch. If you want to view or edit the command menu, you can press the "e" and then a combination of "ctrl + x" to start to perform.
Supported OS:
- GNU / Linux (although at the time of writing this manual support for separate / boot partition is not implemented);
- FreeBSD;
- Mac OSX / Darwin;
- Microsoft Windows - all versions;
Detect any GRUB2 configuration file (grub.cfg)
Function to find the file "grub.cfg" on all partitions and create a menu to select a particular "grub.cfg" file from all found. This can be useful when installing GRUB2 was somehow damaged, but the configuration file was unhurt. Download file "grub.cfg" will load the native GRUB2 menu in the shell Super GRUB2 Disk.
Detect any GRUB2 installation (even if mbr is overwritten)
This feature allows you to search for files of installation GRUB2 (file "core.img", specific for GRUB2) on all partitions and create a menu to select a particular file from all found. This can be useful if your MBR was overwritten system MS Windows, but the installation GRUB2 still buildable. Download file "grub.cfg" (as in the description of the previous menu) usually also allow you to boot, but may still be a problem if you use a function in a newer version of GRUB2, than that used in the current Super GRUB2 Disk. Downloading a file "core.img" of GRUB2 through this menu item will load GRUB2 it out of your current package, as if the ball is not damaged MBR and boot runs normally.
Detect loop bootable isos (in / boot-isos or / boot / boot-isos /)
Set distributions GNU / Linux LiveCD support multiple boot from ISO file, ie when possible to boot from the ISO file without the need to burn it to CD. This function searches the directory "/ boot-isos /" or "/ boot / boot-isos /" on all sections of the disc. Then search ". Iso" files in these directories and creates a menu to select a specific ". Iso" file from all found. However, not all the files ". Iso" can be used for multiple loading.
At the time of writing this article supports the following distributions:
- Grml;
- Parted Magic;
- Sidux;
- Slax Tinycore;
- Ubuntu;
- SystemRescueCd;
- Any distributions that come with files Loopback.cfg;
Enable GRUB2's LVM support
This option allows you to enable GRUB2 LVM with "insmod lvm", and if your partition "/ boot" is located on LVM, you must select this option before starting any function from the menu, as described above, containing the name "Detect .. . ". If you do not know what the LVM, it is especially and you must not touch, and you can just simply ignore it.
Enable GRUB2's RAID support
This option includes support for RAID GRUB2. If the partition "/ boot" your OS is located on the RAID, then you must select this option before using any function described above, containing the name "Detect ...". If you do not know what a RAID, you can just simply ignore it. When using RAID1 GRUB boot loader can read parts of an array of modules loaded even without RAID.
Enable GRUB2's PATA support (to work around BIOS bugs / limitations)
Until now, many computers may be present incompletely BIOS, which can not work with disks of large volume. At the same GRUB can give errors like "out of disk" when you try to boot from the disk a large amount without having a separate partition "/ boot" small size, located in the beginning of the disk. However GRUB2 available own drivers for direct disk access, bypassing the BIOS. Therefore, limitations in the BIOS will not hinder access to any part of the disk, regardless of its size. So if you have problems downloading from such errors as "out of disk", selecting this option will boot without problems.
To install GRUB2 with support ATA, to get rid of the problems mentioned above, use the command:
# Grub-install - disk-module = ata
Currently only supports GRUB2 old actuators PATA (ATAPI or IDE). If you drive SATA, then this option will have no effect, however, the likelihood is low that the new BIOS with SATA will be problems.
Enable GRUB2's USB support * experimental *
Many BIOS-s still do not support booting from USB, but with this option you can use Super GRUB2 Disk (loaded from a floppy disk, CD, or other device that supports BIOS) to boot your OS from USB, using its own drivers GRUB2, ie bypassing restrictions BIOS, this option will only allow you to download free operating system such as GNU / Linux or FreeBSD, and can not be used to boot Windows from USB-devices. This functionality is still under "experimental."
Enable serial terminal
This option includes support for GRUB2 "serial console", using the default settings. It can be used for debugging, maintaining the error messages in the logs. If the default settings do not fit your serial-Soup, you can change the configuration manually by using the "serial" in accordance with the documentation If you have no idea what "serial console", then just ignore this option.
List devices / partitions
This function displays all of your devices and partitions on them that can read GRUB2. There will also be information and file systems on each device. And so as GRUB2 uses a single module "ext2.mod" support "ext {2,3,4}", then any "extN" filesystem will appear as "ext2".
